I spend most of my time in jeans. My style has never been traditionally girly so I’ve always defaulted to jeans. Lately, I’ve been thinking about my style and how it’s currently evolving. And one surprising thing I’ve noticed is I want to wear more skirts but don’t. There were a brief couple of weeks in the summer where I wore a skirt almost every day, but once the heatwave left, I stopped.
It’s a little silly thinking about skirts when there are so many other important things to think about. But I can’t stop. I stare at my skirts as I decide what to wear. There they are hanging in my closet going unworn. I keep telling myself that I’ll wear them, just not now. The coffee shop is too casual for a skirt. I’ll look weird going grocery shopping in a skirt. Blah, blah, blah.
Apparently I have this mental block with skirts (and dresses for that matter). It’s like I reserve them for special, fancy, dress up occasions. But the thing is I don’t have many of those occasions in my life.
Take this skirt, for example! I love this skirt. I lusted after it for months before I got it. But once I had it? I didn’t wear it as often as I thought I would. And I’ve definitely only worn it like twice this season. One of those was for a job interview!
I’ve convinced myself that I’ll be too cold if I wear a skirt in mildly cool weather. Which, honestly, is ridiculous. It’s not even that cold yet!
So I’m giving myself a little challenge. Here’s what I’m doing: I’m challenging myself to style three casual outfits with this skirt over the next two weeks. I’ll share the outfits on my Instagram and here on the blog too. And if you feel like joining me, you totally should! Write me an email and tell me what item you’re gonna work on styling! I’m nosy so I want to know haha.
