greeting the new year with a poem

on display

i’ve shed my summer shade,
watched each granted wish
drift away on a gentle breeze
(or whip away in the gale)
of the changing season.

i’ve burrowed into myself,
left my limbs exposed for all to see
how i’ve have chased the sun,
noted the ways
my roots have taken hold of my sisters.

my golden hues have fallen away
yet here i remain
praying these clusters of dreams
might fall at the right moment
into the right soil
to become my future.
